Police have recovered the outdoor recreation equipment stolen from Avondale College in October.
The theft of six sea kayaks and other accessories would have cost $17,000 to replace had police not found the boats and equipment at two properties in Cooranbong and one in Budgewoi. The thieves were all aged under 18 and, according to Dr Wayne Miller, senior lecturer in health and outdoor education in the Faculty of Education, admitted to a previous theft this year.
After the second theft, Wayne invited the thieves to enrol in Avondale's Diploma of Outdoor Recreation as a form of rehabilitation. The invitation stands. "Come paddling with us," he says.
